Routers*

I continue to work with routers specfically Cisco . I configure and set up new routers, also  involves managing our IGP which is OSPF and also some static routing. Further I am managing BGP as IBGP between routers in our infrastructure and also as eBGP for our peering.This at the same time involves working with access-lists by managing all IP filters. Cisco routers that I have recently work with include 7200XR, 3900, 2800, 1900 series etc. 


Switches*
---------
switching equipment that could is widely spread on the network are cisco switches. Both Multilayer switch and non multlayer switches are available on the network.

I am involved in setting up new switches that is to ensure they adhere to guidelines before installation these includes the correct vlans, spanning tree, trunk port configuration are adhered to.





Network Monitoring Systems*

I have experience with Nagios, Cacti, What's UP Gold, Netdisco and RANCID

All these listed are used to monitor various equipment on our network and we continue to scale them as the network grows. Equipment such as Base stations, routing equipment such Cisco routers and  switches.

My organisation is wireless Internet Service provider, it has been in existence for the past 5 years and has grown to client base of over 40,000.

My role as network engineer and current responsibilities are;

- Configure and maintain production and corporate networks.
- Assist with administering and maintaining network infrastructure.
- Perform and assist with network design, network capacity planning, monitoring, reconfigure, and tuning of network hardware.
- Configure and install new network equipment
- Help maintain network hardware/software up to date.
- Maintaining current network configurations backups.
- Working with NOC in monitoring network health
- Participate in on-call schedule.
- Participate in off-hours changes to address service outages and scheduled upgrades. 
- Perform and document network operation processes and procedures.

To have quality and reliable networks in a developing country we need perform network operations that conform to industry best practices. Also  inorder to transform to next generation networks centered on convergence and qualit of services, Network operations are fundamental to the success of network activities.

As an Internet Service provider, we provide access to the internet by selling various connectivity options. Our last mile delivery has been wireless both 2.4 and 5.8GHz and more recently via metro fibre. Our server equipment run on open source operating system which is a variant of Linux distribution - Centos.
We connect to SAT3 international fibre cable via Nambia down to South African then into Europe backbone

My interesting in routing and switching and also desire to improve my professional skills. I am actively persuing many industry professional cerifications such as Cisco Cerfied Network Professional (CCNP) and also Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP), as I already Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
I am currently working at the Network Operation Center for our organisation and actively involved in maintain the networking infrastructure that is manage our Cisco router and switches. I have worked previous with the first Cisco Premier partner in the country which designed network solutions on cisco platform and most centred on routing/switching.


How you expect to use the knowledge you gain at the workshop after you return to your country*

I would like to ensure skills transfer among colleagues at work that is by involving myself in-house trainings. Further, skills sharing through various local community working groups as I am already actively participating in Internet Service Providers Association.
